Some Day

How many times have you said to yourself that you would learn something new, take up a desired hobby, take time for yourself, or in some other way treat yourself well at some future point in time?  Many of us feel guilty about allowing ourselves to have pleasure in our lives.  We tell ourselves that we will be happy at some future point in time.  As soon as we do whatever it is we think has to be done first, we can be happy.  At this future time, we can take time for ourselves, take time for the hobby that interests us, and take time to treat ourselves well.

But what about now?  Why can we not treat ourselves well now, learn new hobbies, be happy?  Would it help to know that we are God’s sole way of experiencing life in a physical body?  It is through us that God can experience the pleasure that comes from being happy.  If we keep on putting off being happy, we deprive God of the opportunity to enjoy life through our eyes.

And how about treating ourselves well?  We each are God’s creations.  God lives in us, through us and with us.  When we treat ourselves poorly, we treat God poorly.

Do we really want to tell God that He cannot be happy through us until some later date?  Do we really want to deny God the enjoyment of our happiness?  When we walk in God’s love and light, we can choose happiness for ourselves every day.

We need to learn not to feel guilty about being happy. The right to be happy is our birthright.  God wants us to be happy, not only for us but so that God can experience happiness through our eyes.

Before we can be happy we also have to learn that it is not other people who make us happy, that only we have the power to make ourselves feel happiness or any other emotion.  We need to cease giving up our power to others and allowing them to determine our happiness.

God is waiting for us to learn these lessons.  God will even help us learn these lessons.  And God would prefer that we learn these lessons today rather than some day.

May God add a blessing to these humble words.

AMEN
