The Best Gift

If we pay attention to the commercials that play before holidays, we may end up thinking that the best gift we can give or receive is a diamond ring from a certain jeweler, a new car, or any one of the technological wonders available in or world today.

But in the line of ‘best gifts’ the first and foremost is God’s love. We do not even have to do anything to deserve that gift.

Next in line of the best gifts is our health and the health of our loved ones. Having been through almost losing the love of my life, I know that the best gift I could ever receive is his continued life. Each day I have with him is a gift of the most precious sort.

Unfortunately we sometimes take our loved ones for granted, expecting they will always be around to support us, love us, and share life with us. But losing them or coming close to losing them can happen in the blink of an eye. We must cherish our loved ones and hold them close to our hearts at all times.

For each of us, our days are numbered, and none of us knows when that last day will arrive. So it is up to us to live and love to the fullest each and every day. We need to live in every moment as if it were our last, experiencing everything each moment has to offer.

We need to enjoy life now rather than waiting for certain things to happen before we can take full enjoyment of life. We must also love ourselves and take care of ourselves to the best of our ability in each and every moment. How could we not love one of God’s precious creations? For if we allow it, God lives in us. God’s light and love flow through us to others, making that the best gift each of us could give or receive.

May the God of love add a blessing to these humble words.

AMEN
